Star - 1993 (continued)
Driven by four superb singles -- "Gepetto," "Feed the Tree," "Slow Dog," and "Dusted" --
Belly's debut album is a terrific set of effortlessly melodic guitar-pop, alternating
between bright pop songs and atmospheric ballads. Even with her sweetest melodies, lead
singer/guitarist Tanya Donelly has enough realism and dark fantasies in her songs to
keep Star from being cloying or saccharine. In fact, her songs are so good that it's a
wonder she didn't start her own band sooner.
