Having considered myself a writer since the age of 16, I realized last year that I hadn't done much actual writing recently. This made it difficult for me to introduce myself as anything but a web developer, which in Silicon Valley circa 2001 was something of an albatross (albeit a very common albatross).

With the keen intuition of a woman who has to hear me complain about work every day, Jennifer sensed my dilemma and enrolled me in a short fiction class at City College of San Francisco as a Christmas present. Under the tutelage of the most excellent Michelle Richmond (author of The Girl in the Fall-Away Dress), I produced a few stories worthy of publication on someone's web site — lucky for me I have one:

I have a number of other stories in various stages of completion, but I've found that I miss the burst of creativity that comes immediately before a deadline. With that in mind, I've put out the call to my former classmates and asked them to meet at Sadie's Flying Elephant to trade stories, provide support and criticism, and drink beer. If you're among that group, or if you've just stumbled across this page and happen to be a writer in the Bay Area, drop me a line to find out about the next meeting.
